- The only thing you are missing is maturity in the V.34 industry. V.34
- is relatively new. The V.34 spec (as published by ITU-T) is open to
- interpretation. There are also out and out bugs in some of the various
- modems. However, when developing a modem, the first thing you do is
- verify that you (as a modem maker) are compatible with yourself. If
- there is some abnormal behavior in your transmitter, you can bet that
- you have fudged your receiver to as well. Compatability with other
- vendors modems is the toughest challenge. Sometimes this made tougher
- because their microcode is burned in ROM and non-upgradable. You then
- have to either work around their bug or be incompatible.
-
- After having been developing our modem and testing various vendor
- modems for 2 years now, I can tell you the USR has a very clean V.34.
- I'll bet you a large sum of cash that the new modems installed at your
- ISP are neither USR, Motorola or AT&T based modems.
